Once again, it was so great getting together. It seemed like such a long time had passed since we had book club... Oh, yeah. It was! I guess that's what happens when you miss a meeting. Well, absence really does make the heart grow fonder, because I missed the hell out of you all and really enjoyed our visit. (I've always wanted to say "abstinence" instead of "absence"; it just seems to make more sense that way and ... it makes me laugh.)
As always, it was great to hear every one's opinion about John Adams. That is what makes book club the most interesting, our differing ideas. So saying that, I can't wait until November 1st to have my book scrutinized. We will have a late harvest soiree and deep conversations about the delicacy and fragility of The Glass Castle.
I say that as if I know. I haven't even started the book yet. Ha!
Our bookclub blog! All about the books we read, the food we eat, and the wine we share!

Greetings from the Space Cadet
So it sounds like book club was a little quieter than normal with two of us missing. The Hour I First Believed turned into The Hour I Forgot. So sorry!!!! I would love to know what great food Eye prepared, and especially how much of my share of the wine you all drank!! From the email it sounded like you had a great time.
So, we'll be meeting again at Kay's house in September on the 27th. I already have it on the calendar and have reminders set up in Outlook. Apparently, I need all the help I can get these days. Oh, and we will be reading John Adams by David McCullough.
See you all then!!

Sorry I'm Late With This
Cee,
Thank you so much for hosting our book club meeting. I had a wonderful time at your house. Lunch was outstanding. You need to share your Hummus recipe.
And hey...how come you always get the nice weather?
Hope everyone is having a great summer. Can't wait to see you all in August!

In Preparation for May 31st
Our Next Date & Tomato Soup Recipe
So we'll be seeing each other on May 31st. Hopefully that will be enough time to finish The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.
Here is the recipe for the delicious soup Dee made at our last meeting.
Tomato Soup
2 lbs Roma tomatoes (approx 16) cored and cut in half horizontally
3-4 cloves garlic - minced
2-3 T olive oil (extra virgin)
1 T Kosher salt1 tsp black pepper
1 C fresh basil leaves
2 C chicken broth (can use veggie, but I like chicken)
Juice of one medium lemon
1 T sugar
salt/pepper to taste
shaved Parmesan or Romano cheese
Place cut tomatoes, skin side down, on baking sheet. Sprinkle with garlic, olive oil, Kosher salt and pepper. Roast in preheated 350 oven for 25 minutes. Remove from oven; place in food processor and process until pureed. Pour into a large pot; add broth, lemon juice, sugar and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to simmer; continue to cook for 5 minutes, stirring often; serve warm or cold with shaved cheese on top.
Serves 6-8
It's best when you have FRESH tomatoes and basil!!!!

Homemade Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese

Thank you, Dee, for hosting such a wonderful lunch. All the food was so delicious. It is always great getting together with the girls.
Es, we drank the bottle of wine you brought during your last visit. It was great! Dee mentioned that she had a really hard time not opening it before now. Glad she waited for the rest of us!
It's not often that all six of us enjoy the books we read. But it seems we did like The White Tiger. It was a book most would not have picked up on their own, so ... great choice, Dee.
We have an urgent piece of business to post. Due to scheduling conflicts, our Book Club date may be changing from May 3rd. So read your email and when a consensus is reached, I'll post it.
Can't wait to see you all again!

Oh Yeah!! We Don't Like to Read Romances!!
Thank you, Jay, for hosting a great lunch for book club this month. Soon you need to email the recipe for both the Carrot-Ginger Soup and Chicken Wraps.
We had a great time but really missed Cee. We all hope you feel better soon. We drank your wine, I mean, we drank wine for you!

I'm pretty sure that, except for Es, we all did not like Outlander. Too much of a romance with many loose ends. Oh well, we win some, we lose some.
The next meeting in tentatively set for March 22 but that could easily change. March is a flexible month for us all. We'll wait until we hear back from Cee if that date will stick. The next book is White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.
